Before Rocky hit the theaters, little was focused on workout attire and equipment. Working out is a sweaty business, and at times, a messy one.  It strives towards conditioning, strengthening, and endurance. With the current health plans and the abundance of gyms in the local areas, there is really no excuse to avoid working out. For Rocky, his workout motivation was to crush and defeat Apollo Creed. What is your motivation?

After talking to several friends and family members, workout motivations fluctuate. Whether the motivation stems from emotions such as blowing off steam, or physical pursuits such as getting tone, it seems that the common thread is the yearning to be healthy. Although working out is essential, our busy lives often impede this motivation and pursuit. We have made our resolution at the stroke of midnight, vowing to make this new year a healthy one with daily workouts and healthy eating. Not to rain on one’s parade, but it is better to make more practical and achievable health goals. For instance, my goal is to workout 5 days a week, in any order, as long as 2 of the days are for resting. It is as simple as deciding what to wear to work. So let’s put the fear in the gear, and get ourselves moving forward!

Below are some great tools to help affirm your workout motivations, including!

Nobody owes nobody nothin’. You owe yourself.

Workout Tips at Home

We have come a long way from Richard Simmons workout videos. Now major cable companies such as Xfinity/Comcast and AT&T, as well as HBO, Netflix, Showtime, Hulu, and Prime all have access to streaming workout sessions. On mornings when the workout window is pretty short or the weather is bad, I turn to these fellow streaming sessions.

Other options for at home workouts:
Walking the dog(s)
Yard Work
Extensive house cleaning
Circuit training
Yoga & meditation
Jump rope
Outside walking/running
Swimming (if pool accessible)

Workout Tips at Work

My school campus is pretty big, so I take advantage of achieving all of my daily steps. Often I will park far in order to walk more, take the stairs options verses the elevator, and stand and move around every 15 minutes. One of my close friends, whose job was mostly done on the computer, developed lower back aches during her pregnancy. She creatively decided to put her computer on a podium so she can stand up most of the day while working. She needed something different, and went for it. What a genius!

Other options for at work workouts:
After lunch, try to catch more steps by walking around for 15 minutes.
Pack workout clothes the night before, and leave them by the door to grab and go when heading to work.
Stand more than sitting at a desk.
Take a flight of stairs here and there.
Drink a lot of water! It serves two purpose: hydration and walking to the powder room!

Wardrobe Workout Gear

The stylish attributes of activewear is also a motivator for working out. Right now my favorite activewear is ZYIA Active. The wear is very durable, a large range of sizes for kids, men, and women, and can hold up whether it’s for yoga or a 5K.ZYIA Activehas very reasonable prices and sale items. I just stocked up on new leggings and a sports bra to keep me motivated, comfortable, and stylish while working out! Follow on Instagram to check out the latest gear!
