The body achieves what the mind believes.

No coach, no trainer, no mentor, and no boss can do it. If you really want to be transformed, you have to live an intentional life. Most people don’t lead their life, they accept their life. And when you accept your life, then you are living on things that are not worthy of your time, effort, and energy. To go uphill, you have to be intentional. Nobody ever went uphill by accident. You have to be intentional with what you do and who you are. So how can we overcome the woes of working out?

In the recent episode of the Really Personal Podcast, we have a 2 months check-in to see where our intentions are leading us in our pursuit of a healthy lifestyle. I said to myself, “Who are the best sources of advice on health?” The answer was: “People like me with the same struggles and frustrations.” Therefore, instead of paying hard-earned money to health trainers who have perfect bodies, I turned to a gratuitous source where I could hear what others like me learned from their health struggles- TikTok!

Aside from the choreographed dancing and pranks, people on TikTok post-workout plans, what to eat in a day, basic guidelines to be healthier, and so many more useful videos. From people on TikTok, I quickly learned that lifting weights is the most effective way of losing weight and improving our bodies.

How to get motivated & be consistent

#1: Schedule and organize workouts on your phone.

WFitness Woes and Overcoming ‘Em | Really Personal Podcasthether in the gym, on a bike, or on the trail, we typically have our phones or smartwatches with us. Personally, I jam out to music while working out, so my phone is always with me. If planned ahead, you will approach your workouts with determination, clarity, and motivation.

When scheduling, utilize the “repeat weekly” feature. Be as specific as possible. Remember, you’ll be more reluctant to adhere to a workout plan and overcome workout woes if you’re not intentional in putting in the effort to plan ahead. You don’t enter an interview unprepared for the questions. The same applies in the gym.

Every Sunday, look at your calendar, and depending on your upcoming schedule, add the times and make any necessary changes. You’re approaching the week head-on with a workout game plan.

The below TikTok and Instagram trainers provide excellent workout schedules. Try different ones, and see which ones work best for you and your body.

#2: Pre-select your workout attire the evening before.

Whether it’s a banging matching set, or if you’re like me, Lululemon tights and a loose shirt or sweatshirt, lay it out in plain sight. Your morning routine begins the night before. By setting everything out, you’re giving yourself no excuses or wasted time.

According to a 2009 study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, it takes 18 to 254 days for a person to form a new habit. The study also concluded that, on average, it takes 66 days for a new behavior to become automatic. Doing this simple task of setting out your workout clothes or packing your gym bag will set you up for success.

#3: Keep a water bottle or cup near your workspace or where you spend the majority of the day.

Even in your workspace, keep a water bottle or a cup near you. Continue to fill it up throughout the day. My students know the drill- if the water bottle is not present or almost empty, someone reminds me to fill it up or bring it to the front of the classroom.

When working from home, I personally prefer a glass of water with lemon and mint, but you do you- the Stanley cups are super popular. The benefits of water intake are energizing, mood enhancing, hydrating, maintaining a healthy eating mindset, and motivation for working out.

I’m sharing what has worked for me so that it will work for you. If you’re feeling stuck in your life, whether it is in a relationship that is not serving you, an unpleasant job, or a body that doesn’t feel truly yours, know that you can always rewrite your story. We’re never lifeless. You can always make a change. Don’t wish for it, work for it!
